Hi,
MailEnable will call the scanner if you set if you set the MTA to run more than 1 thread. But the Sophos command line scanner may not like running in multiple instances. Have you tried installing ClamAV that we provide in our installer for AV scanning.

A note that ClamAV by itself does not seem to be all that effective. There is a way to beef up it's performance. Check out this thread.

Have a look at sanesecurity.com for add-ins for ClamAV. Increases my Spam/AV hit rates gigantically.
I have another post on how to install it. It is pretty simple.

MXScan does what you need and if you're concerned about a virus tie in also the Avast software.
