PTR Records

Post by dcol »

My ISP set my PTR record to inmail.mydomain.com.
Do I need to set the default mail domain in the SMTP General properties to inmail.mydomain.com, or can I just use mydomain.com?
I also suspect the Cloudflare PTR record also needs to be set to inmail.mydomian.com. Correct?
Basically I just want to know if the ISP PTR record and the default mail domain, and the Cloudflare PTR record needs to exactly match.
Thanks

I had the PTR record changed to mail.<mydomain>.com and changed the Cloudflare PTR record to match.
Now the only question is the Mailenable SMTP default domain.
mail.<mydommain>.com or <mydommain>.com
Or does that not even matter?

I assume as long as you have an A record with mail.<mydomain>.com, then the Cloudflare PTR record using mail.<mydomain>.com is good to go as long as the ISP has the PTR record setup as xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.in-addr.arpa. 86400 IN PTR mail.<mydomain>.com.
