Failed: IME_ADMIN not granted access

Post by IronMike »

Hello.
I installed Mailenable standard version. All is ok, but when i run DIAGNOSTIC there are 2 point in "Application Environment" that don't pass diagnostic test:

The first:
Permissions: C:\Programmi\Mail Enable | Failed: IME_ADMIN not granted access | Warning | Fail

The second:
Permissions: C:\Programmi\Mail Enable\CONFIG | Failed: IME_ADMIN not granted access | Warning | Fail

How i can resolve this problem? I use Win 2003.
thanks.

You could give the IME_ADMIN account Full Control access to the following directories and sub directories;

Program Files\MailEnable

Or you could run the MEInstaller application found in the MailEnable\Bin directory and execute the "set permissions" option, it is the first one in the list.

no success with mailenable standard edt on windows 2003

Post by pat8888 »

Same kind of problems with me, same os and standard mailenable;
I have no idea who IME_ADMIN might be.

Solution does not work: When attempting to apply registry permissions for IME_ADMIN AND IME_USER, mailenable installer returns 'Warning: the SETACL command could not be found in the mailenable BIN directory and MailEnable services may have issues accessing the registry. You should undo/soften the server and resolve the issue'
That sounds nice :shock: !

Items that return a warning or error within diagnostics:
Permissions: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Scripting.FileSystemObject Failed: Users Group not granted access Warning Warn
Permissions: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes Failed: Users Group not granted access Warning Warn
Permissions: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Mail Enable\Mail Enable Failed: Users Group not granted access Warning Warn
Permissions: C:\Programme\SWsoft\Plesk\Mail Servers\Mail Enable Failed: IME_ADMIN not granted access Warning Fail
Permissions: C:\Programme\SWsoft\Plesk\Mail Servers\Mail Enable\CONFIG Failed: IME_ADMIN not granted access Warning Fail

The answer is that the MailEnable IME_ADMIN account needs access to all of the MailEnable directory structure if you have a denied group or your OS is not allowing this for a particular reason you need to diagnose why this is not being set on your server.

As for the registry permissions you could try and run the MEInstaller and execute option number 12 to set the registry permissions for the IME_ADMIN and IME_USR. If you have the same problems then you may have to look at your security policies maybe they are locking out the permission changes.

adude28 - you should re install and if the IME_ADMIN account is not created check the install.log file in the MailEnable\BIN directory and find out why the account is not created. Also check your event logs.

I host with Interland (now web.com) and MailEnable is installed on all of their servers. A few days ago, they told us to upgrade to MailEnable Professional v1.85 due to some security issues. I did that and also installed some Windows Updates.

Now, the IME_USER and IME_ADMIN accounts lose their privileges everyday. I have to login, start the Remote Registry service and run MEInstaller.exe (options 2 and 3). It's then fixed, but than 1/2 hr later, they lose their privileges again????

Any clues? Sounds like a Microsoft security policy...but what? Any advice?

Thanks...yeah, I figured that out a few hours later and got the server cleaned up. I should have posted a reply so others could learn. Thanks for the reply!

Hi All

I had the same proble m related here, but only with the 3 keys.
I have done all, and nothing worked. So i done it by hand.
In the regedit, i have gone to HKLM\software\classes, and right click the name classes, and inside permissions i have added users group (read) that was not in there.
Done the same in mail enable key under software and voilá, all green now

Ty for help on directing me to this solution

Alexandre
