Lost Election??

Post by sagelike »

I'm running MEMTA -debug and it runs through the initialization process and then starts spitting out line after line of Lost Election.

What the heck does that mean?

Hi,

Usually this means that you are running the MTA in debug mode while the MTA is running normally as a service. Stop the MTA within the administration console first then run the MTA in debug mode within a command prompt.

As Ian said, the MTA is running in debug mode and is writing out a text note to indicate that it is attempting to wrestle with another instance of the MTA to see who assumes the role as master. You most likely have another instance of the MTA running (most likely the service itself is running). If you intend to run the MTA in debug mode, you should probably stop the existing MailEnable Mail Transfer Agent Service.
Regards, Andrew

I have a two-node cluster setup. I have the same problem logging "Lost Election" every second to the debugging log file and I am not running debugging ("memta -debug") at a Command Prompt. Is debugging turned on because I have the Debug Log file turned on via ME MMC console which in turn sets the registry entry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mail Enable\Mail Enable\Agents\MTA\Debug Enabled = 1?

Thanks,

Dave

I also have a two node cluster setup and am having the same issue. Is there a way to assign a master MTA to one of the two?
