What is the best low cost Antivirus and/or Spam solution?

I have to replace an older antivirus software package with a new one and was looking for a low cost option, possibly one that I could knock out both viruses and spam at the same time on a budget.

Thanks for your help!

I use no-ip's Mail Reflector Service.

http://www.no-ip.com/services/managed_m ... block.html

I find it does a really great job eleminating spam. It also does virus checking and acts as a backup mail server. Another great feature is you don't need to open port 25 to your mail server.

All in all a great service and it only cost $40 a year (per domain).

Ian, With MXUptime do you recommend getting the Message Sniffer as well?

RPSMITH, that's what we'd like to use but the cost is too high for the number of domains that we have. This may be an option for some of the premium customers that we have.

Thank you both for your input.

MXUptime: http://www.mxuptime.com is working great!

Also resolved all of my problems with high transaction times because the SMTP server isn't doing any of the RDNS checking anymore.

Thanks again,
John

Hi John

I am happy that MxScan is working out well for you :-)

I would recommend starting off with MxScan first and then adding MessageSniffer if you need extra filtering efficiency or if you run a high Volume server. The Sniffer engine is very efficient and fast and would help in hitting a "ShortCircuit" earlier before the other heavier filters (ie SpamAssassin) are executed.

Of course if budget permits, then yes by all means go with Sniffer. We use MxScan together with MessageSniffer and get close to 99.9% of all spam filtered on our gateways

Cheers
