SMTP service does not start

PROBLEM

The MailEnable SMTP service does not start.

SOLUTION

This is usually caused by another application that is using port 25, usually the Microsoft SMTP Service. Make sure this service is not running. This service can be disabled by using the Services Control Panel applet.

If MailEnable cannot bind to a port, the errors can be viewed in the SMTP debug log, which is located in the MailEnable\Logging\SMTP directory.

Also, review the Windows Event Log under the Administrative Tools Program Group and search the MailEnable Knowledge Base for any error numbers reported.
