How to run MailEnable services in debug mode

SUMMARY

Mail services can be run interactively in debug mode allowing debug messages to be written to the screen.

DETAIL

The following instructions outline how to run the services in debug mode:

1. Open the regedit and move to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mail Enable\Mail Enable\Connectors\SMTP\Debug Enabled key.
2. Set the value of this key to 2 (this tells the server to write debug messages to the console rather than to a file).
3. Then, run the Windows command prompt and type in the following commands.

cd \Program Files\Mail Enable\Bin\

MESMTPC -debug (For debugging the SMTP service)

MEMTA -debug (For debugging the MTA agent)

MEPOCS -debug (For debugging the Postoffice service)

MEIMAPS -debug (For debugging the IMAP service)

MEPOPS -debug (For debugging the POP service)

MELSC -debug (For debugging the List server service)

MEPOPC -debug (For debugging the POP retreival connector)

MEHTTPS -debug (For debugging the HTTPMail service)

4. When the debug session is completed, close the console window.
5. Make sure that the registry key is set back to 1 when completed.
