Reverse DNS (RDNS) Blacklisting not working


SYMPTOMS

Reverse DNS Blacklisting does not appear to be working.

RESOLUTION

There are no specific logs that can be used to check the performance of RDNS blacklisting other than the success or failure as denoted in the SMTP Debug log files.

There is a utility that can diagnose the lookup process. This can be found on the following page: http://www.mailenable.com/addons_Diagnostic.asp

However, Version 2.x and 3.x of Professional and Enterprise Editions includes a System Overview utility which monitors RDNS blacklisting detections.

The following reverse DNS blacklists can be used as reference if the configuration settings have been altered or are missing from the blacklist lists window.  Use the "configure blacklists" button to edit blacklist configuration settings:

DSBL-List:

DNS Path: Zone lookup
Name Server: list.dsbl.org.
Record type to check for: Address (A)

DSBL - Multihop:

DNS Path: Zone lookup
Name Server: multihop.dsbl.org.
Record type to check for: Address (A)

DSBL - Unconfirmed:

DNS Path: Zone lookup
Name Server: unconfirmed.dsbl.org.
Record type to check for: Address (A)

Spamcop:

DNS Path: Zone lookup
Name Server: bl.spamcop.net.
Record type to check for: Address (A)

Spamhaus:

DNS Path: Zone lookup
Name Server: sbl.spamhaus.org.
Record type to check for: Address (A)

SpamhausSBL-XBL:

DNS Path: Zone lookup
Name Server: sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org.
Record type to check for: Address (A)

Barracuda Reputation Block List:

DNS Path: Zone lookup
Name Server: b.barracudacentral.org.
Record type to check for: Address (A)
