SYMPTOMS

When opening the MailEnable administration program, or listing mailboxes, an extended amount of time is taken before the administration program is displayed and workable.  For some larger hosting environments it may appear that the administration program does not load at all.

CAUSE

When the administration program loads the mailboxes for a post office it will enumerate through the whole message store and calculate each mailbox size and other mailbox details. The larger a message store is the longer it will take to open the console (this applies if the administration program state was saved when viewing mailboxes for a postoffice).

SOLUTION

Within the MailEnable Administration program you can change how the mailbox size is calculated. Right click the Messaging Manager item in the left panel, and select Properties from the popup menu. Then click the Administration tab in the window that appears.

The option is "When displaying the mailbox list, folder size is determined:"

1. Calculate sizes (slow) = Will enumerate through all post office mail and calculate size of mailboxes

2. Use precalculated sizes (fast) = Will use last file size taken from a configuration file (no enumeration)

3.  Dont show sizes (fastest) = Will not work out quota mailbox size.
