How to log passwords that have been issued by the email client to the MailEnable POP service.


SUMMARY

This article explains how to enable add a registry key that will allow the POP service to log the password that has been issued by the remote email client within the POP service debug log file.

DETAIL

  1. Open Microsoft Windows "Regedit"
  2. Navigate to the following MailEnable registry branch

32bit Windows: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mail Enable\Mail Enable\Services\POP

64bit Windows: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Mail Enable\Mail Enable\Services\POP

  1. Add the DWORD name: Log Passwords
  2. Set the decimal value for the DWORD key to 1 (1 = Enabled, 0 = Disabled)
  3. Close regedit
  4. Restart the MailEnable POP service

The POP debug log file will now log the password issued by the email client and will look like the example below in the logs:
