500 server error when trying to access the ActiveSync virtual directories under a Plesk website.


SYMPTOMS

The following error is produced when trying to access the MailEnable "autodiscover" or "Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync" virtual directories under a website created by the Plesk control panel via an internet browser.

Example: http://example.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml

HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error

The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid.

A 500 server error will also be presented when performing a verification test within the MailEnable ActiveSync management utility testing ActiveSync under a custom website.

CAUSE

IME_ADMIN requires read permissions on the root folders installation path and all child objects.

RESOLUTION

Add IME_ADMIN read permssions on the root websites folder.

Steps:

  • Open Windows explorer and navigate to: inetpub\vhosts\{website name}
  • Right click on the {website} folder and select properties.
  • Navigate to the "Security" tab and click the "Edit.." button
  • Next click the "Add..." button and specify IME_ADMIN in the object names window.
  • Leave the default read and execute permissions and click "Apply".
  • Click OK
  • Click the "Advanced" button and tick the checkbox for "Replace all child objects permisson entries with inheritable permission entries from this object".
  • Once complete click OK.
