Cannot add Outlook MAPI or ActiveSync account because of Outlook new account wizard


SUMMARY

When creating a new account in Microsoft Outlook 2016 you are presented with a wizard dialog to add a new account. This does not support custom service types, so it is not possible to add an account for the MAPI connector for Outlook or for an ActiveSync account.

RESOLUTION

The wizard can for new account creation can be disabled by changing a Windows registry key with regedit. The article in References describes how to disable this. MAPI client kits will configure this registry key in kits 2.73 and later.
