Disabling outbound SMTP

SUMMARY

You may wish to disable all outbound delivery by the SMTP service. This may be useful if you are testing or wish to stop any email from being sent remotely. Email will still be delivered locally.

DETAIL

To disable outbound delivery, set the following registry key:

For 32bit Windows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mail Enable\Mail Enable\Connectors\SMTP

For 64bit Windows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Mail Enable\Mail Enable\Connectors\SMTP

Value Name: Disable Outbound Delivery
Type: DWORD
Value: 0=Outbound Enabled, 1=Outbound Disabled

You should also change a setting in the SMTP options. To do this expand the Servers->localhost->Services and Connectors branch, right click on the SMTP icon and select Properties from the popup menu. In the window that appears, click the Delivery tab and enabled the checkbox labelled Directly insert Non-Delivery Receipts into Inbound Queue.

You will need to restart the SMTP service for the changes to take effect.
